Our Pioneering History

Formed in 1993 as a cooperative by our founding member's, Australian Settlements Limited, as it was then known, provided settlement and payment services, allowing these organisations to participate in all financial sector clearing streams.   Today, ASL is still an organisation which, like many of its customers, is owned by its shareholders -  and supplies services to those member organisations and a wide range of non-member businesses across Australia and the world. The benchmark to take and make payments has been set.

AUTHORISED Deposit-taking Institution (ADI)

As an ADI, ASL is under the supervision and regulation of the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) and the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) ASL is an accredited and trusted brand - and hence was the first non-bank to be granted an Exchange Settlement Account (ESA) at the RBA. Since 1994, ASL has also held a full Australian Banking license. Since inception, ASL has progressively grown our range of products and services to continue to meet the evolving needs of our customers and industry. This expansion has occurred with a strong 30+ year settlement record.
